A guide to the SemySMS Connect app and your dashboard. Using the old SemySMS app? Guide for the old version

01 Installing the app and linking the phone #

The app goes on your Android phone before binding: the binding code comes from it.

Download the app

Messages go out from the SIM card of your phone. So first the SemySMS Connect app goes on the phone (Android 7 or newer), and then each SIM is linked to your account with its own code.

  1. Install SemySMS Connect from Google Play or as an APK file from the app page. On first launch, set it as the default SMS app: without it the phone does not send website tasks.

  2. In the app, open Settings → SemySMS Connect and tap Turn on Connect. The app shows which data goes to the website and when. Tap I agree, turn on.

  3. A Connect tab appears at the bottom. Each SIM has its own link code there, with a button to copy it.

  4. On the website, open Devices and click Add device.

  5. Enter the code and click Add. Each SIM becomes a separate device with its own ID: for the second SIM, repeat with its code.

Done: the device is in the list, and in the app the SIM shows its ID and Online instead of the code.

Checking the connection

Send an SMS from the website to the test number +7 000 000‑00‑00. The phone takes the task, writes it to the log on the Connect tab and reports it delivered right away. No real SMS is sent.

02 Device list #

The Devices section lists everything connected to your account: the SIM cards of your phones and WhatsApp and MAX accounts. Each device is a separate row with its own ID.

  • ID - the device number on the website. Pass it to the API to send a message from this particular device.
  • Device name - the phone model and SIM; for messengers, the model and [WhatsApp] or [MAX]. The dot on the left is green when the device is online and takes tasks, and red when it is not. The time of the last contact is in the tooltip of the dot. The pencil on the right opens the device settings (section 03).
  • # - the device note, for example Office.
  • Properties:
    battery level, with a lightning bolt while charging;
    the pause between messages in seconds, if one is set.
  • Version - a Connect label with the app version.
  • Mobile operator - the SIM carrier and number, if known. For messengers, WhatsApp or MAX and the account number.
  • Send speed (per minute) - how many messages per minute the website gives the device. Changed with the pencil.
  • Actual speed - how many messages per minute the device really sends. A green arrow next to it means sending is in progress, a blue one means delivery reports are coming in.
  • The service in the phone - On if the device takes tasks. Stopped means the phone does not see this SIM right now or the messenger account has signed out: no tasks are given, the ID is kept.
  • To use the device in mailing - whether the device is used in bulk mailings.
  • To turn on delivery report - whether to get a confirmation that the message arrived.
  • SMS limit - how many messages the device can send per hour, day or month, with how many are used and left.

03 Device and SIM settings #

Device settings live in two places: on the website, in the Device settings window, and in the app, in the SIM card.

On the website

The pencil next to the device name in the list opens the Device settings window:

  • Device note - the label in the # column, for example Office. It shows in the app as well.
  • Configuring notifications about incoming SMS - an address the website sends every incoming message of this device to. Send the message body adds the text to the notification.
  • WebHook status of outgoing messages - an address the website notifies when a message is sent and/or delivered. The checkboxes choose which statuses to send.
  • SemySMS Connect - Enable WhatsApp and Enable MAX (section 04). Only Connect devices have this block.

In the app

On the Connect tab, tap a SIM to open its card:

  • Note and limit can be changed both here and on the website.
  • Pause between SMS is set here; the website shows it in the Properties column.
  • Sending while roaming is off until you turn it on.
  • Send to the site - incoming SMS, SMS with codes, SMS from short and alphanumeric numbers, incoming calls. All off until you turn them on (section 06).
  • Unlink from account - the SIM stops being a device of the account and gets a new link code and a new ID.

Phone-wide settings are in Settings → SemySMS Connect: turn Connect off for a while, messengers, the test number, unlinking the phone from the website.

04 WhatsApp and MAX #

A WhatsApp or MAX account on a phone with Connect can become a separate device on the website: send messages from it from the website and through the API, and receive incoming ones. Sending through messengers is available on a paid plan.

  1. Turn it on on the website. Devices → the pencil next to a SIM of this phone → Device settings. In the SemySMS Connect block, tick Enable WhatsApp or Enable MAX and save.

    Dashboard: the SemySMS Connect block in Device settings
  2. Sign in in the app. Settings → SemySMS Connect → Messengers → WhatsApp or MAX. The app shows what will go to the website; tap Agree and sign in.

    You sign in with a QR code from another phone where this account is open: in WhatsApp, Linked devices → Link a device; in MAX, Settings → Devices → Sign in with QR code. If WhatsApp is on this same phone, tap Sign in with phone number: the app shows an 8-character code that you enter in WhatsApp.

    Connect settings → Messengers
    Connect settings → Messengers
  3. Link the account. The account gets its own link code on the Connect tab. Enter it on the website just like a SIM code: Devices → Add device.

  4. Choose what goes to the website. In the account card on the Connect tab: private messages, messages from groups, channel posts. The note, limit, pause between messages and proxy are there too.

    WhatsApp account card
    WhatsApp account card

Tasks go to the account by its ID, just like to a SIM. Delivered means the message reached the recipient for WhatsApp, and that the recipient read it for MAX.

Proxy. If a messenger is not reachable directly, set a SOCKS5 or HTTP proxy for it: the Proxy for WhatsApp (or MAX) row in the account card or the button on the sign-in screen. Check tests the connection through the proxy.

Important. WhatsApp and MAX block accounts for mass messages to strangers. Connect a separate number and write only to people who expect your messages.

05 Sending single messages #

Open the SMS section and click Send sms.

Fill in the form:

  • Phone - in international format, with a plus and the country code. Separate several numbers with commas.
  • Device - the SIM or messenger account the message goes from. With Auto, the website picks the device itself.
  • Message - the text. Above the field you see how many SMS the message takes.

The message goes out when the device is online: Connect is on and the Connect tab shows Online. In the device list it has a green dot.

06 Incoming SMS and calls #

The phone can forward incoming SMS and calls to your dashboard. This is off by default and is turned on for each SIM separately, in the app.

  1. On the Connect tab, tap a SIM and in the Send to the site block turn on incoming SMS and, if needed, incoming calls.

  2. SMS with codes (for logins and payments) and SMS from short and alphanumeric numbers (banks, services, carriers) are forwarded only if you turn them on separately, in the same place.

Incoming messages are in the SMS section on the Received SMS and calls tab; a call is marked Incoming call. WhatsApp and MAX messages arrive there too if you turn them on in the account card (section 04).

To get incoming messages straight into your system, enter its address in Device settings → Configuring notifications about incoming SMS (section 03).

Incoming SMS are forwarded while SemySMS Connect is the default SMS app.

07 Contacts and groups, import and export #

Contacts are added to a mailing by groups. Groups help you split contacts by purpose and pick recipients for each mailing.

To create a group, click Create group and enter a name.

The group appears in the list with the number of its contacts. The buttons on the right edit and delete it.

Contacts can be moved between groups and deleted several at a time: tick them and choose an action. To work with all contacts of a group, select the group or a section on the left.

To select all contacts of a group, tick the box next to the Actions button and click the Select all link that appears.

Contacts are created and edited in the Contacts section.

You can add a contact by hand or import contacts from a file.

By hand: click Add contact and fill in the fields. Required and important fields are marked in red.

From a file: open the Import tab.

There are three ways to import:

  • Excel file - an Excel spreadsheet;
  • Import from text - paste copied text;
  • Text file - a plain text file.

For Excel, choose Import → Import from Excel and enter the column letter for each kind of data. Required fields are marked in red, recommended ones in blue. Keep the date of birth in a text cell in the YYYY-MM-DD format, for example 1990-02-28, otherwise it may be read wrong.

To import from text, choose this option and paste the data. Separators: colon, semicolon, comma, space.

To download contacts, use the Export button: to an Excel file or to a CSV file that the phone book of almost any device accepts.

08 Creating a mailing #

Open the Bulk Mailing section and click Create mailing.

Enter a name for the mailing.

The mailing appears in the list with its main parameters. For the full setup, click Mailing settings.

Set the period, the sending time and the number of repeats. You can also repeat it on birthdays if the contact has a date of birth.

Below, choose the device for the mailing and the contact group, and write the text in the last field. The text can use values from the contact fields:

  • [Last name], [Name], [Middle name] - the recipient's last, first and middle name;
  • [Phone number] - the phone number;
  • a random number and more.

Another tool is a variable template: options go in square brackets separated by a vertical bar, for example [Hello|Good afternoon|Hi]. When sending, they are put into the messages in turn.

Click Save.

A created mailing is started with its on button.

09 Selective distribution #

After a mailing you may need to resend to the numbers that had errors. That is what selective distribution is for.

In the Bulk Mailing section, click Selective distribution. The button becomes active once all messages of the previous mailing have been sent.

The window has four filters with three values each:

  • Sent - passed to the device but not yet handed to the carrier;
  • Sent actually - handed by the device to the carrier;
  • Delivered - delivered to the recipient;
  • Error sending - could not be sent.

No matter means the filter is ignored. The number of selected contacts is shown in the window title. Click Send, and the service creates a new mailing task.

10 Mailing report #

In the Bulk Mailing section, click Delivery report and save the CSV file. It opens in Excel as an ordinary spreadsheet.

The columns:

  • A - the contact's sequence number;
  • B - phone number;
  • C - how many messages are to be sent;
  • D - sending date;
  • E - how many were sent;
  • F - how many were delivered;
  • G - how many sending errors;
  • H - the message text.

11 API key #

In the API section, click Create token.

A window with the token parameters opens; required fields are marked in red:

  • Expiration date - how long the token is valid;
  • Time - the hours when messages are sent;
  • Limits - how many messages can be sent with the token. Over the limit a message is not accepted and the API returns a limit error;
  • Instant sending - for premium accounts: messages go out at once, bypassing limits and restrictions.

Click Create. The token appears in the list with its parameters; the edit button changes them. Methods and parameters are in the API reference.
